HANCOCK SIGNS WITH HORNETS
First Legend Player to go to the NBA

The Charlotte Hornets announced on August 21 that they have signed free-agent forward/guard Darrin Hancock, an all-United States Basketball League selection on the Dodge City Legend's championship team. Per club policy, terms of the deals are not disclosed.

Hancock becomes the first Legend player to sign a contract with an NBA team.

Hancock is a three-year NBA veteran, two-year USBL veteran, and a three-year CBA veteran who was originally drafted by the Hornets in 1994, spending the first two seasons of his career with Charlotte in 1994-95 and 1995-96. In 133 career NBA games, Hancock has averaged 3.5 points and 1.3 rebounds while shooting 53.0 percent from the field.

"Darrin's outside shooting and ball handling at the guard position have improved tremendously," said Hornets Executive Vice President of Basketball Bob Bass. "With these improvements, we wanted to take a look at him in camp because he's always been very athletic."

With the Dodge City Legend last season, Hancock averaged 17.8 ppg and shot 53.3 percent from the field. He was named to the All-USBL First Team and was a member of the All-USBL Defensive Team. A member of the CBA's Fort Wayne Fury for the past three seasons, Hancock averaged 15.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg and shot 51.1 percent from the field and 46.3 percent from behind the three-point line last season.

"It's a great opportunity for Darrin and a great day for the Dodge City Legend" commented Legend General Manager Tom Nelson. "We are a new franchise who had a great first year and helping get Darrin back to the NBA is a great way to cap the summer."
